I wish to get in touch with people who may be able to share some stories and memories of the Green area of Aberdeen. I have been commissioned through Aberdeen City Council to undertake a public art project which centers around the Green area. I hope to work with local people to build up a picture of the area both past / present.
I am interested in oral history and although Leopard magazine is a great source of local history, I would like to meet with people who could share stories with me. Hopefully these recollections could be recorded for others to enjoy.
The Tivoli is one venue I am particularly interested in. I read an article from Leopard dated April 2009, by Eric Martin recalling his time as a call boy at the Tivoli theatre and I wondered if you had any contact details for Eric, so that I might contact him to see if he was interested in recording his stories.
I am also keen to find out more about the market which used to take place on the Green, any folk lore surrounding the area, including ghost stories, and am very keen to find out if there are traditional songs /poems which reference the Green.
If there is anyone who you think may be interesting to talk to in regard to these subjects any information would be greatly appreciated. Any information or leads at this point are most welcome.
